Statuette representing Napoleon I in his campaign uniform.
The Emperor had consciously adopted an outfit recognizable from afar for his soldiers. His presence on the battlefield gave his troops a boost in morale, which was sometimes a decisive factor. The negative effect on enemy troops was no less negligible.
The black cocked hat, the gray frock coat and the uniform of a colonel of the mounted hunters of the Guard gave him this emblematic silhouette, passed down to posterity.
