The broken faces and wounded in the Great War
The traumas of the Great War are as much a test of the
bodies as of the minds of the combatants. Their variety and severity
testify to the technological and scientific means implemented
on the battlefield. Faced with a multitude of wounded and
unknown pathologies, doctors and surgeons must improvise and experiment.
For the luckiest wounded, life will return to
normal; for others, who still have serious after-effects, the return
to civilian life will be a new ordeal. Silhouettes
omnipresent in the post-war landscape that remind
society as a whole of the magnitude of the sacrifice.
