Between 1959 and 1996, the Army has deployed three successive tactical nuclear weapons systems: the weapon system "Honest John", the weapon system "Pluto" and the weapon system "Hades." The authors drew on the knowledge and experience of those who have known, served and implemented these materials to synthesize, so accessible and in a heritage perspective, the relevant data on the subject.

This book is by no means a general history of deterrence, which belongs to another issue. It is based also on an open technical literature, not archives, even if it is enriched by a selection of testimonials.

Also, apart from the already mentioned weapons systems, is he merely mention of cursive manner, tactical weapons of the Air Force - to the extent that they are an essential complement terrestrial means. In the same spirit, it addresses, for comparison, very briefly, the hardware equivalent of NATO and the Warsaw Pact. It also includes two glossaries (one of the military and strategic terms, the other technical terms), and a table of acronyms.
